Media Lab Video Codec SDKs are market-proven technologies deployed with Tencent business units and external customers. Tencent business units utilizing the codec SDKs include cloud services, cloud meeting, cloud gaming, real-time communication and cloud storage, cloud video editing, and rendering services. The Media Lab codecs help services cope with network jitter and effectively utilize the transmission bandwidth.
H.266/VVC was officially released in July 2020, and was jointly formulated by the International Organization for Standardization ISO, the International Electrotechnical Commission IEC, and the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector ITU-T. Compared with the previous generation of international video coding standards H.265/HEVC, H.266/VVC can reduce the required bandwidth by half while maintaining the same subjective quality (using H.264/AVC to transmit the bandwidth of high-definition HD services) Ultra HD UHD service).
In November 2020, within less than half a year of the first version of the H.266/VVC standard, Tencent optimized the H.266 decoder to cover the entire platform and launched an ARM-optimized version of the decoder for the iOS/Android platform. With comprehensive module performance optimization and excellent parallel structure design, the real-time decoding of single-core 1080p or multi-core 4K ultra-high-definition code streams of H.266/VVC standard on mobile terminals is realized, covering Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS, etc. All platforms have laid a good foundation for the development of video-related applications in various industries. In July 2021, Tencent Cloud announced that its audio and video cloud services have officially supported the H.266/VVC standard, marking the official start of H.266/VVC commercial use on the global cloud.
